  • RESEARCH AND EXPLORE: Before you set foot in a bridal boutique to see the newest collections, it's essential to do some research. Browse through wedding magazines, Pinterest boards, and bridal websites to get a sense of the wedding dress styles you're drawn to. Consider the type of wedding you're having, the wedding venue, and any specific themes or colors you're incorporating. This initial research will help you narrow down your options! Begin by exploring various wedding dress styles and silhouettes. There are numerous options, from A-line to ball gown, mermaid to sheath. Look at images of real brides in different styles to get a sense of how they look in real-life settings. Here is an article that describes the various types of dresses. Lastly, familiarize yourself with different fabrics commonly used in wedding dresses. Silk, satin, lace, and tulle are just a few examples. Understanding fabric textures and how they drape can help you narrow down your choices.

  • CONSIDER YOUR BODY TYPE: Certain silhouettes flatter specific body types more than others. For example, an A-line dress is universally flattering, while a mermaid style accentuates curves. Keep that in consideration while shopping.

  • COLLECT INSPIRATION IMAGES: Create a digital or physical mood board of your favorite dresses and elements. This can serve as a visual reference during your shopping appointments and help convey your vision to the bridal consultants.

  • CONSIDER THE VENUE AND THE SEASON: Consider the setting and season of your wedding. A lightweight, flowy gown might be perfect for a beach wedding, while a more structured dress could be ideal for a formal ballroom wedding.

  • BE OPEN TO TRENDS BUT STAY TRUE TO WHAT YOU LIKE: While it's good to be aware of current bridal trends, don't feel pressured to follow them if they don't align with your style. Your wedding dress should reflect who you are and you should feel comfortable in it!

  • CHOOSE YOUR SHOPPING COMPANIONS WISELY: Select a small group of trusted friends or family members to accompany you. Too many opinions can be overwhelming, so keep it to a few people whose taste you trust. Make sure they're people who will support and uplift you during the process.

  • HAVE AN OPEN MIND: While it's great to have a style in mind, be open to trying on different silhouettes. Dresses can look very different on the hanger than they do on the body!
