How to create a wedding design? What can we expect when working with San Diego wedding planner Valentina Weddings & Events?
This is a question I often get asked and today I want to give you an overview of all the steps of my process. Over the years I have spent a lot of time creating a design roadmap and ensuring it is seamless and exciting for my couples. Being very strong on logistics, I always felt the pressure to really work hard on creating a good design process for my clients. Each step has a specific reason for existing and it has proven to be efficient and indispensable!Â
First of all, with all my full planning clients, it is important to note that before digging into the design, we have to create a draft budget. This is important to create a design proposal that is realistic.
You might be wondering what I mean by design-related vendors….We are talking about florist, bakery, stationer, furniture rental, tabletop rentals, textiles, backdrops, dance floors, staging and tenting.Â
Once we have a draft budget, it is time for.....
STEP 1: everything starts with a questionnaire that you will need to fill out; it has lots of different questions about your story, style, colors, flowers, likes and dislikes, must have and more. You don’t have to worry about not having an answer to all the questions! I always ask to fill it out together as a couple, at the best of your knowledge, and I’ll guide you to discover YOUR vision, even if you think you don’t have one yet. What I am looking for is a starting point, a detail, more often than not, my job as a San Diego wedding planner, is about reading between the lines and bring to the surface that vision you did not know you already have.
STEP 2: After reviewing your answers to the questionnaire I sent you,- I will prepare a mood board, a 1 page file that should give an idea of the colors, style and mood of the wedding. I always add few words that should be representative of the overall vision, using adjectives that describe the feel of the wedding design.
This is the perfect time to let me know if I am going in the right direction or if after all, you do want to change a color for example.
STEP 3: Once the mood board is approved I work my magic and I start brainstorming on the whole wedding design: from your ceremony aisle and arch to the chairs to the arrival experience, then cocktail hour, reception till the cake! Keeping in mind your style and what was budgeted, I create a very comprehensive design board that I present you during our design meeting! I do want to make an important comment here: while I am proposing you items and a cohesive look, you are still in full control of the design meaning if you are not 100% on board with one of the items I proposed, we will look for more and find the one that you like! Sometimes a couple might have some reservations about hiring a full planner and designer worrying he or she might "force" the design selection however, I can say with total confidence, this is not the case for me. While I love proposing and brainstorming on design ideas, I also know that the wedding day is your day and you are the one who needs to be absolutely happy about every single choice!
