Villa Pliniana was built in 1573 and spreads on 18 acres. The Villa is located in the small village of Torno, located 10 minutes by car from the city of Como. The name Pliniana comes from Plinio the Elder and Plinio the Younger, two naturalist from the city of Como. The Villa had many different owners but it is famous to have hosted many notable people such as Napoleon (you can still find the original pool table where he used to play), Leonardo Da Vinci, Queen Margherita of Savoy and many more. The Italian Palazzo has a total of 17 bedrooms and can host up to 40 overnight guests, plus the villa also manages Il Sereno hotel, a very private and luxurious hotel that can be reached by private boat in 5 minutes.
My tour of the property started at Il Sereno where I was welcomed by my tour guide who showed me the suites and the amenities of the hotel. The first impression was excellent, it is the perfect spot for someone who wants complete privacy and detailed and personalized services, while enjoying the breathtaking lake view. After a delectable lunch enjoyed on the deck of Il Sereno restaurant, we took a private boat to Villa Pliniana.
Approaching the Villa by boat paints a perfect picture of its grandeur: the architecture and the privileged lake front location makes it the perfect venue for an over the top celebration. I would recommend Villa Pliniana for a wedding with a guest count of 100-150. There are many spots available for ceremony, cocktail hour and reception plus the garden can be completely covered in case of unfortunate weather.
